I have so much to be thankful for...

My boys Cody, Randy, Dylan & Blake.

My grandchildren , Angel Alaina & Reese.

My love and best friend Roggie,

Mr. Peabody (my faithful doggie).

Mother Earth , my sister Cindy and brother trees.

         I really enjoy

The feel of dirt and working in my garden .

 All  of the animals ,

I am  especially fond of   butterflies and bees.

Sun light , my butterfly kite and a perfect breeze.

            Moon light and stars , 

 Rain water

Friends near and far

And all the wonders that never cease.

Everday is Thanksgiving , 

 Full of

Joy , Laughter , Love & Peace

When  I remember to say thank you ,

             Instead of always asking please.

"As your body is what you eat , your spirit is what you think."

I was outside planting cabbage the other day and began contemplating how many cabbage heads the plants would eventually  produce and wondering what I would do with all of that cabbage.

"And so love your true brothers as your Heavenly Father , and your Earthly Mother love them .It is  by love that the Heavenly Father , Earthly Mother and Son of Man  become one"

Our local food bank distributes food in the park 3 times a week for those in need. It is mostly canned items and so I thought something fresh from the garden would be a real treat , so Lord willing , I would share the extra cabbage with them even though it would probably not even be enough to go around , maybe 10 heads or so.

"Give a man a fish and feed him for a day, Teach a man to fish and feed him for life"

The same rule applies to growing vegetables.

And Your earthly Mother and Heavenly Father will send you their angels , to teach , to love and to serve you ...

I have never been  sure exactly where my place in the universe is but I am pretty sure it is somewhere  in a garden.

"And their angels will write the commandments of God in your head in your heart and in your hands , that you may know , feel and do , Gods commandments."

I thought about the possibility of a community garden and even with only 50 gardeners we could grow 510 exextra heads of cabbage ! The idea just seemed to fit.

"Brick walls only stop those who are not really determined to achieve their dreams."

There are a few minor details I need to work on , like the fact I have no location for the project , no capital for the start up , no experience with a community garden or other project, no friends in high places , bad credit  , 

I guess you could say I am not really "bonefide "so community support takes some effort .The lack of confidence some seem to have in my ability to succeed is due somewhat  to the fact  no one else wants to take a risk untill they see some other business owners  in the community contribute.

"Those who say it can't be done , please quit interrupting the one doing it"

It is easy to quickly become over whelmed and give up the idea completly. Many times in the past , I have failed to achieve a dream , mostly because I was either afraid to try ,  gave up prematurely  , let someone  convince me I couldnt or was simply unwilling to put in the work.

This time I am trying a little experiment , a challenge to myself so to speak. I will create the community garden in San Marcos , from scratch , starting with no resources  . If plan A fails Ill just go on to plan B.

I will prove one person can make a difference . and anything is possible if you believe it is.

So.. .I have a seminar this weekend in Austin  about the startup and success of community gardens . I will get to meet some folks who have been at it for a while and get some ideas of where to start . They have a variety of start up resources and ideas  and ways to contine a successful community garden that have been proven .

      Rocket and I often have breakfast at the Kettle  and  linger over coffee and read the morning news.

The local San Marcos paper quoted  an interview with Ted Turner , he was asked what he saw the future being in forty years  His reply was shocking.

He said " Most of the people will be dead , and those of us still alive will be cannibals"

Darn I was picturing those moving sidewalks...

Anyway ...

I’ll bet most of you are saying right now " I would never be a cannibal  , no way , no matter what" And I’m sure right now you believe it. But how many days have you ever gone without eating?

How strong would your convictions be if your children and loved ones were slowly starving to death and the only way to save them was eat your neighbor?

Do you think you would be able to sustain life without resorting to canabilism?

Even so how does one keep from becoming cannibal food in a world gone so mad?

  I’m pretty sure I would not be that good at protecting myself physically and I can’t run that fast any more so I began wondering if in such a situation would I be more valuable as "food" or do I have any  important knowledge and or skills that would make me more valuable alive . You know , something benificial to the survival of others.

 Hmmm ... I’m too old  to be a breeder , Lets see . can’t cook  , don’t know how to sew  and  OMG  Does this dress make me look fat (and juicey) ?\

Needless to say , Rocket and I went home  that very day  , and started the vegetable garden we have been planning to start for years now.

 Pretty scarey huh?  . . I don’t intend to dwell on terrible things that might happen but what’s the harm in becoming a little more self sufficient?

 Its seems better to to be thinking of solutions and positive actions towards a better tommorow , than just waiting around 40 years  and wondering what’s for supper -
